Jim Karlstrand of the Spokane #1 Chapter, SAR attended the Kellogg High School U. S. Marine Corps JROTC Awards Ceremony on May 18th where he, on behalf of the Spokane #1 Chapter, presented the Bronze ROTC Medal w/Bronze wreath to Major Craig Petersen's Outstanding Cadet, Joseph Gibbs. Mr. Karlstrand then, on behalf of the Idaho Society, SAR, presented Cadet Gibbs with the Bronze ROTC Medal w/Silver wreath.

The Idaho Society, SAR submtitted Cadet Gibbs' recommendation to the National Society, SAR for consideration in their Enhanced JROTC Awards program. Cadet Gibbs finished 6th in a field of 24 entrants in the National compentition.

The May Idaho Society/Fort Boise Chapter combined meeting and election was held on 20 May 2017 at the Cottonwood Grille located at 913 West River Street in Boise, Idaho. A new slate of officers were elected to serve from 1 June 2017 through May 2019. The new officers are:

President: Terry W. Patterson
Vice President: Steven Kren
Secretary: Matthew D. Brechwald
Treasurer: John D. Ranck
Historian: Allan McKenney
Chaplain: (Vacant)
Registrar: Francis L. Huntley

Compatriot Dr. Pettett delivered the main address.

The new venue and menu were both well received and the attendees truly enjoyed the new setting.


Secretary Matt Brechwald attended the Kuna Air Force JROTC Awards Ceremony on May 9th where he presented the ROTC Bronze Medal to LTC Timmerman's Outstanding Cadet, Megan Pheil.

Compatriot LTC Charles M. James Dies

Chuck James died of natural causes in a Boise hospital on 9 April 2017.

Chuck was a lifetime member of the SAR and worked tirelessly to support the Idaho Society and the Fort Boise Chapter. He served as Secretary/Treasurer and Registrar for several years and received numerous awards for his service.

A graveside service was held at the Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Boise, ID on 8 May 2017 at 1:00 PM .


Informal Luncheon Held

An informal luncheon hosted by Secretary Matt Brechwald was held at Noon on 5 April 2017 at the Sunrise Cafe located at 805 N. Main Street, Meridian, ID. No business was discussed. This was a "get acquainted" meeting only. Several members were in attendance.


2017 Idaho Society, SAR Washington Birthday Luncheon Meeting

The Annual Washington Birthday Banquet was held in the Liberty room on the 2nd floor of the Riverside Hotel in Boise on 18 February, 2017 at 12:00 Noon. There were 24 members and guests in attendance.


Idaho Society SARColor Guard Commander Terry Patterson presented the Colors to open the meeting. President-Elect Gene Hill then led the attendees in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the SAR Pledge and the invocation. During lunch, our members and guests were given the opportunity to examine items in the silent auction and to enter their bids on those items. After lunch, Secretary Brechwald spoke of current events and updates in the Idaho Society.


John Laurence Bush, the author of the novel "Steam Coffin", presented “Dual Empires of Liberty:
Reinforcing Political Freedom with the First High Technology in History”.

After the guest speaker, Secretary Brechwald announced the winners of the silent auction and President-Elect Gene Hill offered the Recessional and the Benediction after which the meeting was adjourned.
